440 Engine

This is the Barracuda's 440 engine. Built with my own two hands!

440 engine, +0.030 bore, 446 CID.
Arias E4296 quench dome forged pistons, nominal 10.0 CR @88cc.
Childs and Albert Duramoly file fit rings.
Actual compression ratio 10.7 with 82cc heads.
Cranking pressure 170-180 psi (100 ft elevation).
Cast iron heads, 452 castings, 2.14/1.81 valves from Aerohead Racing.
Lunati hydraulic cam, 285/295 advertised duration, 235/245 @0.050, 0.507/0.534 lift.
Mopar Performance (Crane), ductile iron adjustable rocker arms, 1.5 ratio.
Barry Grant Demon 850 cfm, double pumper carburetor.
Mopar Performance, M1 single plane intake manifold.
Chrysler C-body high performance cast iron exhaust manifolds.
2-1/4" Dual exhaust, H-pipe, factory tips (restrictive).
Speed Pro high volume oil pump, 224-4174V.
MP heavy duty oil pump drive with hardened tip, P3571071.
Moroso deep sump, high capacity oil pan.
MP (Clevite 77) P4286549 full groove main bearings.
ARP rod bolts, 145-6002 and ARP main studs, 140-5401.
MP aluminum water pump housing, P4286900.
MP aluminum water pump, P4529102.
Crankshaft damper, ProLine Silicone filled, SFI
MP electronic distributor.

Block has 1/2"NPT hemi oil pickup modification and 17/64" main bearing oil passages.
Cylinders honed with torque plates.
Block decked even and correct angle.
Reciprocating assembly balanced, 2500 gram bobweight.
Mains align honed.
LY Rods resized, beams polished, magnafluxed, and shot peened.
Rod bolts stretched to specification (0.006").

These wide groove bearings are overkill for this application. Main bearing clearances are 0.003", rod bearing clearances 0.002". Oil pressure (hot) is 35 psi at idle, 65 psi at 3000 rpm.

This is the Mopar Performance distributor that came in the electronic conversion kit, P3690428. I bought it in Feb 2000, and the adjustable mechanical advance makes changes easy without welding up the old slots!
